Birds and Flowers of the Castle of Mey and Balmoral began as a collection of artwork originally produced for Her Majesty the Queen and the late Queen Mother. Painted by the talented wildlife artist, James Alder, the images are selected from Their Majesties personal favourite birds and garden and wild flowers and are the result of many journeys to the castles of Mey and Balmoral. The late Queen Mother was so impressed by a book James did for charity that she asked him to paint the flowers and birds of her beloved Castle of Mey in Balmoral. The paintings so captivated The Queen that she asked for a similar work on the birds of Balmoral. The Birds of Castle Mey and Balmoral is a culmination of the 50 watercolours produced for the earlier books. .

‘The Queen has asked her thanks to be passed for such a beautiful publication. They will no doubt make a fine addition to the Royal Library.’ Christopher Geidt, assistant private secretary to The Queen

‘This is a collection of watercolours produced for the Royal Family in a new affordable book.’ RSPB Birds Magazine

‘Painted on request from the late Queen Mother . . . so impressed by a book James did for charity she asked him to capture the beauty of the Castle of Mey and Balmoral for her own private collection.’ Evening Chronicle
